New Reading - James Chapter 2

Listen to James, Chapter 2

{2:1} My brothers, don't hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality. {2:2} For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in; {2:3} and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, "Sit here in a good place;" and you tell the poor man, "Stand there," or "Sit by my footstool;" {2:4} haven't you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? {2:5} Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn't God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him? {2:6} But you have dishonored the poor man. Don't the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts? {2:7} Don't they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called? {2:8} However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well. {2:9} But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors. {2:10} For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. {2:11} For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. {2:12} So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom. {2:13} For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

{2:14} What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him? {2:15} And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food, {2:16} and one of you tells them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled;" and yet you didn't give them the things the body needs, what good is it? {2:17} Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. {2:18} Yes, a man will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

{2:19} You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder. {2:20} But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead? {2:21} Wasn't Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? {2:22} You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected; {2:23} and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness;" and he was called the friend of God. {2:24} You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. {2:25} In the same way, wasn't Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way? {2:26} For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

NEW Reading - James Chapter 1

Listen to James, Chapter 1

{1:1} James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings. {1:2} Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, {1:3} knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. {1:4} Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. {1:5} But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. {1:6} But let him ask in faith, without any
doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. {1:7} For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord. {1:8} He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

{1:9} But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; {1:10} and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away. {1:11} For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

{1:12} Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. {1:13} Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. {1:14} But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. {1:15} Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. {1:16} Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers. {1:17}
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. {1:18} Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

{1:19} So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; {1:20} for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. {1:21} Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. {1:22} But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. {1:23} For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; {1:24} for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. {1:25} But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

{1:26} If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn't bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man's religion is worthless. {1:27} Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

024 Reading - Light For Your Path

Listen to this Devotional

Thus says the Lord Yahweh: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of. {Ezekiel 36:37}

You don't have, because you don't ask. {James 4:2}

"Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened." {Matthew 7:7, 8} This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. {1 John 5:14, 15} If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. {James 1:5} Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. {Psalms 81:10} (You) must always pray, and not give up. {Luke 18:1}

Yahweh's eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry. The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.{Psalms 34:15, 17} You will ask in my name; and I don't say to you, that I will pray to the Father for you, for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me ... Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full. {John 16:26, 27, 24}

The blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel. {Hebrews 12:24}

"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! {John 1:29} From the foundation of the world ... the Lamb who has been killed. {Revelation 13:8} It is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire, but you prepared a body for me. By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. {Hebrews 10:4, 5, 10} Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering. {Genesis 4:4} Christ ... loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. {Ephesians 5:2}

Let's draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water. {Hebrews 10:22} Having ... boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus. {Hebrews 10:19}

When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. {Proverbs 3:24}

A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled. (Jesus) himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. {Mark 4:37, 38}

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. {Philippians 4:6, 7}

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.{Psalms 4:8} He gives sleep to his loved ones. {Psalms 127:2}

They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, "Lord, don't hold this sin against them!" When he had said this, he fell asleep. {Acts 7:59, 60} Absent from the body ... at home with the Lord. {2 Corinthians 5:8}

Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. {Psalms 97:11}

Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, will certainly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves. {Psalms 126:5, 6}

That which you sow, you don't sow the body that will be.
{1 Corinthians 15:37}

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials, that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. {1 Peter 1:3, 6, 7}

The day of the trial in the wilderness. {Hebrews 3:8}

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. {James 1:13-15}

They gave in to craving in the desert, and tested God in the wasteland. {Psalms 106:14}

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." {Luke 4:1-3}

He himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. {Hebrews 2:18} "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat, but I prayed for you, that your faith wouldn't fail." {Luke 22:31,32}

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? {Job 14:4} Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity. In sin my mother conceived me. {Psalms 51:5}

Dead in transgressions and sins; by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. {Ephesians 2:1, 3} I am fleshly, sold under sin. For I don't know what I am doing. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. {Romans 8:2}

God created man in his own image. {Genesis 1:27}

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man. {Acts 17:29}

God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.{Ephesians 2:4, 5, 10} For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.{Romans 8:29}

Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?" {Proverbs 20:9}

Yahweh looked down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who understood, who sought after God. They have all gone aside. They have together become corrupt. There is none who does good, no, not one. {Psalm 14:2, 3} Those who are in the flesh can't please God. {Romans 8:8}

For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good. For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice. {Romans 7:18, 19} For we have all become as one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is as a polluted garment: and we all fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. {Isaiah 64:6}

The Scriptures imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. {Galatians 3:22} God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses. {2 Corinthians 5:19}

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. {1 John 1:8, 9}

Your word has revived me. {Psalm 119:50}

The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.{1 Corinthians 15:45}

As the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself. {John 5:26} I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. {John 11:25, 26}

In him was life, and the life was the light of men ... As many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. {John 1:4, 12, 13}

It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life. {John 6:63} The word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. {Hebrews 4:12}

You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless Yahweh your God for the good land which he has given you. {Deuteronomy 8:10}

Beware lest you forget Yahweh your God. {Deuteronomy 8:11} One of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice. He fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. Jesus answered, "Weren't the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there none found who returned to give glory to God, except this stranger?" {Luke 17:15-18}

Every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving. That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. {Ephesians 2:7-9} Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law. {Galatians 2:16} According to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior. {Titus 3:5, 6}

The darkness doesn't hide from you. {Psalm 139:12}

Don't I fill heaven and earth? says Yahweh. {Jeremiah 23:24}

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night; nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness ... Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. {Psalm 91:5, 6, 9, 10} He who keeps you will not slumber. Yahweh is your keeper. Yahweh is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. Yahweh will keep you from all evil. {Psalm 121:3, 5-7}

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. {Psalm 23:4}

Be strong, and work, for I am with you,' says Yahweh of Armies. {Haggai 2:4}

I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. {John 15:5} I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. {Phil 4:13} Strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. {Eph. 6:10} For the joy of Yahweh is your strength. {Nehemiah 8:10}

Thus says Yahweh of Armies: "Let your hands be strong, you who hear in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were in the day that the foundation of the house of Yahweh of Armies was laid, even the temple, that it might be built. {Zechariah 8:9} Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Tell those who have a fearful heart, Be strong. Don't be afraid. {Isaiah 35:3, 4} Yahweh looked at him, and said, Go in this your might. {Judges 6:14}

If God is for us, who can be against us? {Romans 8:31} Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we don't faint. {2 Corinthians 4:1}

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. {Galatians 6:9} Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. {1 Corinthians 15:57}

Listen to this devotion

Whom not having known you love. {1 Peter 1:8}

We walk by faith, not by sight. {2 Cor. 5:7} We love him, because he first loved us. {1 John 4:19} We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. {1 John 4:16} In whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation--in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. {Eph. 1:13} God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. {Col. 1:27}

If a man says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn't love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? {1 John 4:20}

Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen, and have believed." {John 20:29} Blessed are all those who take refuge in him. {Psalm 2:12}

Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.
{Hebrews 12:1, 2}

If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. {Luke 9:23} Whoever of you who doesn't renounce all that he has, he can't be my disciple. {Luke 14:33} Let's therefore throw off the works of darkness. {Romans 13:12}

Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air, but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected. {1 Cor. 9:25-27} Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. {Phil 3:13, 14} Let us acknowledge Yahweh. Let us press on to know Yahweh. {Hosea 6:3}

As your days, so your strength will be. {Deut. 33:25}

When they lead you away and deliver you up, don't be anxious beforehand, or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. {Mark 13:11}

Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day's own evil is sufficient. {Matthew 6:34}

The God of Israel gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God! {Psalm 68:35} He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. {Isaiah 40:29}

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong. {2 Cor. 12:9, 10} I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. {Phil. 4:13} My soul, march on with strength. {Judges 5:21}

Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you ... Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well. {Matthew 9:2, 22}

My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food...When I remember you on my bed, and think about you in the night watches. {Psalm. 63:5, 6}

001 Reading

MP3 Audio of 001 Reading

For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. {Pro 2:6}

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. {Proverbs 3:5} But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. {James 1:5} The foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men; God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. That no flesh should boast before God. {1 Cor. 1:25, 27, 29}

The entrance of your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple. {Psalm 119:130} I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. {Ps. 119:11}

All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. {Luke 4:22} No man ever spoke like this man! {John 7:46} But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. {1 Cor. 1:30}
